Unusual "golf" chess set appears at Chess Center

.
Ron says that you can make him an offer if you are interested in this unique golf-themed chess set.

And, now for something on the lighter side...

With the PGA golf tournament recently in town at the Oak Hill Country Club, the above  golf-themed chess set is very fitting to be displayed and put up for sale at the Chess Center.

Did you read about the unusual fan happenings at the PGA tournament last weekend? There were shouts of "Mashed potatoes!", "Chewbacca!", "Baba Booey!" and other assorted things said between golf swings? Well, you wouldn't think that would ever happen at the Chess Center. Well, last Wednesday night, I definitely heard somebody yell out "Mashed potatoes!". That person shall remain nameless. So, it even happens in chess tournaments.

Friend of Dan Meehan's visits Bobby Fischer's grave in Iceland

The following pictures were given to Ron Lohrman by local chess player Dan Meehan. Dan's friend visited Iceland this past summer. Dan's friend was not a chess player, but was nice enough to go out of his way to take some pictures of Bobby Fischer's grave. Dan had sent his friend a logo of the chess center, which appears in one of the photos.

Around the flowers, there is volcanic rock for people to take, probably so that visitors and tourists do not deface the grave and can take something home with them to remember.

Volcanic rocks at grave site.

Saturday Afternoon Adult Tournament
3rd Round: The Chicken?? (rating unknown!!) plays against Matthew Wang (1420).
3rd Round: The chicken surprises Matthew Wang with his first move. Apparently the chicken knows how to play chess! Later, the chicken was unmasked and found to be "Jason The Entertainer" (1524) aka Jason Young.
By the way, Jason can be reached at jason@jasontheentertainer.com for Chicken or Gorilla singing telegrams, magic shows for kids, juggling, etc. 1-800-Juggler (584-4537). Jason was a good sport to wear the chicken head at the beginning of round 3.

In the Youth Tournament there were 5 players:
1st - Aidan Kharroubi with a perfect score of 3 points.
Arianna Kharroubi and Joshua Iosevich scored 1 point each.

Adam DeSantis has very impressive online game stats

Adam's game summary statistics 2000-2013 and still going strong!
As you can see, Adam (aka "Mr. Chess") has played over 11,000 chess games at www.itsyourturn.com. These are games played one move at a time, much like correspondence chess. Adam has a pretty good win-loss ratio as well. Adam has tried all the chess variants and has played people from all over the world.

If you'd like to play a game with Adam, his handle is "kandahar". Ask him for a game and identify yourself and he will be likely to accept a game with you. Mention that you got the idea from this web site. Adam plays on here all the time, even very late at night. Be sure to make your moves at least every day or two, so the games keep moving along.
