Upcoming Chess Events in Rochester NY and nearby

A list of chess events is being added.  Here is a list of some of the upcoming chess events in Rochester and the surrounding area:

  • Monday April 3: Don Stubblebine Memorial Monday Night Chess League begins. This is a 10-week event over 10 Mondays, plus a make-up week. Starts Monday March 3rd. Sign up and you will be assigned to a team. Please register no later than 6:30pm on March 3rd. G/90;d5. Location: Rochester Chess Center
  • Monday-Friday, April 3-7: Chess Camp!  Location: Rochester Chess Center. Call 585-442-2430 for more information.

  • Saturday, April 22, 2023: Archangel 8 Chess Academy Chess tournament Starts at 11am. 1324 Jefferson Ave, Buffalo, NY at Frank E Merriweather library.
  • Niagara Falls Open. MAY 5-7 OR 6-7, 2023- NIAGARA FALLS, NY. US CHESS GRAND PRIX POINTS: 80 (ENHANCED). 5 rounds, 40/80, SD/30, d30 (2-day option, rds 1-2 G/60 d10).   • Wednesday Nights: CCCR 7pm Chess. This is a 1 game G/80;d5 event where players are generally paired closely to their US Chess Rating and appropriately for new players. Registration: 6:30pm to 7:15pm on-site or by calling ahead within that time. $6 visitors, $4 CCCR members. Join US Chess membership on-site for US Chess rating. US Chess membership required to played rated chess game. Location: Rochester Chess Center
  • Saturday Mornings: RCC Youth tournament beginning at 10am. Late entrants OK. Gain experience playing in chess tournaments. US Chess membership not required, but available on-site for your child to obtain a chess rating.  Location: Rochester Chess Center
  • Saturday Afternoons: RCC 3-round G/60;d5 tournament beginning at 2pm. Register by 1:45pm. Join US Chess membership on-site for US Chess rating. US Chess membership required to played rated chess game. Location: Rochester Chess Cente

This is our seventeenth annual all-female chess tournament.  It is being staged to celebrate the women who opened doors in this male-dominated sport and to encourage all those who follow in their footsteps to support and mentor other women.  To help promote this role-modeling, this tournament is open to women of all ages.

Who: Open to women of all ages

    Sections: K-4, K-12, and adult (Sections may be combined depending on number of players)

Awards: 

Trophies for all three sections.  

All participants receive commemorative medal.  

Top overall award: onyx chess set and board.

When: On-site registration runs from 8:30am-9:15am; games start at 9:30; break at 12:00; two or three rounds follow with awards to be presented around 3:30pm.

Entry Fees: $8 by Thursday before event (3/16); $12 same day/onsite. 50% discount for any participants in this year's Interscholastic Chess Leagues, or members of the Rochester Chess Center (individual or family).
