Reminders:
The Community Chess Club of Rochester (CCCR) will be having their USCF-rated G/80d5 game on THURSDAY (Jan. 2nd) because the regular Wednesday schedule falls on New Years Day. The Chess Center is also open for chess and store sales on the Saturday during the upcoming holiday.

Saturday Afternoon Adult Tournament Final Standings:
Open Section:
1st and 2nd place  tie: Jacob Chen and Sherm Cunningham with 2.5 points each
U2000: David Phelps with 2 points
U1876: Doug Spencer with 2 points

U1700 Section:
1st: Ethan Yung with 2.5 points
2nd: Patrick Chernjavsky, Mike Lionti, Samuel Liu, and Michael David with 2 points each

Before the Adult chess tournament, we celebrated Sherman Cunningham's 58th birthday and had a party with pizza, cookies and cake. Sherman had a wonderful day over the chess board finishing with 2.5 in a tie for 1st place in the Open section.

Pahz Cherelin (left, 1285) played a magnificent game against John Manning (1815), but lost in a close end-game.

Chess Center is open for chess on Wed. Nov. 27 and Sat. Nov. 30


The Community Chess Club of Rochester (CCCR) is open for chess at the Rochester Chess Center this Wednesday night, Nov. 27th. Registration is 6:45pm-7:25pm, with games starting at 7:30pm. (USCF-rated, G/80d5). Visitors always welcome!

The Rochester Chess Center's Saturday tournaments will be held on Nov. 30th. That includes the Youth tournament at 10am which runs until 1pm (USCF not required, G30d5), followed by the Adult tournament at 2pm (USCF-rated, G/60d5). Visitors always welcome!

This Saturday, Nov. 16th: SUNY Geneseo tournament organized by James Hiltunen


This is an excellent tournament.  Great prizes, a rated and unrated section, and great food provided free for all participating chess players.

This is the 2nd SUNY Geneseo tournament!
 The Rochester Chess Center is providing a van to shuttle players to and from the tournament. The van will be leaving promptly at 9:30am on Saturday morning, Nov. 16th. Call 585-442-2430 if you would like to reserve a seat.


Play in the unrated section or the USCF-member section!

The tournament will be on Saturday November 16th. There will be $500 of catered food and more than $700 for prizes. 50% of the profits will go to the Salvation Army Adopt-A-Child and we will accepting donations of chess sets, boards, books to give to Adobt-A-Family for Christmas gifts.The tournament is organized by James Hiltunen. The Spring tournament was fantastic. Mark your calendars! The Rochester Chess Center Saturday tournament will still be held for players unable to attend the Geneseo tournament.  However, we hope you will support James Hiltunen and his tournament this Saturday in Geneseo!

Tournament Announcements

New FIDE Tournaments Coming to Rochester Chess Center, meeting Nov. 7th
Ron Lohrman is setting up separate FIDE tournaments for Thursday nights, Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, beginning November 7th. All interest players should meet at 6pm at the Rochester Chess Center at 6pm Wednesday Nov. 6th  to discuss the format, game time, etc. After the meeting, all players are welcome to play in the Community Chess Club G/80d5 rated games at 7:30pm.

Fall 2013 Geneseo Chess Open - Nov. 16th
The tournament will be on Saturday November 16th. Abraham Glasser Wins the 2013 Club Championship! Petty 2nd, Campbell 3rd and McBride 4th

Round 4: David Campbell (left, black pieces) played a magnificent game against defending Community Chess Club Champion Abraham Glasser.  In a very close game with many complications, Abraham Glasser found a win in the end-game and finished with a perfect score (4-0) in the tournament.

The 17 Annual Community Chess Club Championship was held at the Rochester Chess Center in Rochester, New York on four consecutive Wednesday evenings from October 2 - October 23, 2013.  

There were 37 players participating in this very competitive and prestigious chess tournament.  The tournament director was Ron Lohrman.  Sixty six games were played in 1 section.  


PRIZES will be awarded on Wednesday, Nov. 6th at 7:30pm before the regular chess games begin.

Join us on Nov. 6th for the awards ceremony and cake/coffee. Visitors welcome!

The 17th Annual Community Chess Club Championship continued with round 3 on Wednesday evening, October 16th.
