Saturday Afternoon Adult Tournament Final Standings:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd  Shared by Derek Linton, Don Stubblebine, and Rich Motroni with 2.5 points each.
U1780 - Jacob Chen with 2 points.
U1400 - Shared by Andy He and Joseph D'Alonzo with 1.5 points each.
U1000 - Samuel Liu with 1.5 points.

In the Youth Tournament:

Tie for 1st: Arianna and Aidan Kharroubi with 3 points each.
Natalie Prezhdo scored 2 points, Noah Acebo and Matt Tyler each scored 1 1/2 points, Tobias Busick-Warner and Felix Huang each scored 1 point and Haiden Busick-Warner scored 0 points.

The great series of chess draws and wins began with a draw against Rochester Chess Center's Camp counselor David Phelps (rated 1944) on July 18th. The following are some photos from today's Saturday tournament:

1st Round: Jacob Chen (1760) wins against Expert Jimmy Rossi (2007)

2nd Round: Jacob Chen (1760) draws Expert Matt Slomski (2123) with a devastating queen sacrifice.

Here is the final position:

10 year-old Arjun Ganesh also achieves a fine draw in the Saturday tournament!

1st Round: Arjun Ganesh (934) played a very strong game and agreed to a draw with Sherman Cunningham (1900)

Saturday Morning Kids Tournament Final standings:

Tie for 1st: Noah Pence and Franklin Jones with 3 points each

Natalie Prezhdo scored 2 points, Leonid Solodov and Logan Canfield scored 1/2 point

The Kids Tournament is every Saturday from 10am to 1pm

PBS Television interview with kids and camp counselors during CHESS CAMP!

"Cool!... Me and the kids from camp are on TV!"

Tonight at 8pm, the PBS television network  broadcast the series Need to Know Rochester featuring several interviews with kids at the Rochester Chess Center's chess camp, camp organizer Ron Lohrman and camp counselor James Hiltunen.

Here is the description of the program by PBS, which broadcast the chess feature in the last third of the half-hour program: "And the game of chess appears to be alive and thriving in Rochester. We’ll learn what keeps kids engaged in this centuries old game.  Tune in this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV Channel 21 and Cable 11 or 1011."

Click the picture below to view the taped broadcast. It ill be replayed on live television again this coming Sunday at 12:30pm. The CHESS feature story begins at approximately 18 minutes into the program.

Chess Simul with Wendy Xia at Chili Library on July 11th

On July 11th there will be a simul with Wendy Xia, winner of the recent tournament at Geneseo college. This is a good opportunity to test your game against a very strong player.

The Chili Library Chess Club meets on the second and fourth Thursday of every month.  Children in pre-school through grade 12 are welcome.  Adults can come to watch their kids play and to help out. 

Fred Mellender has put together the Chili Library Chess Club web site. It is a wonderful web site with excellent chess resources. Fred volunteers his time together with Adam DeSantis to arrange Chili Chess Club events. More information about the Wendy Xia simul can be found at their web site.
