There were many "titantic battles" over the chess boards. That included a draw between top seeded chess expert David Petty and Connor Wagner, and two exciting matches: David Phelps vs John Frearson (won by David) and Don Stubblebine and Ken McBride (won by Ken). There were also many other great battles as I am sure the other players would tell us. The championship carries a lot of fine prestige and there is a lot of excitement and great sport too. Defending 2013 Community Chess Club champion Abraham Glasser continues on a roll defending his title with 2 points (Abraham won his game vs Jamshed Ahmed in round 2).

A TV crew from cable channel 15 stayed for the entire tournament videotaping the event and recording interviews. This will be part of a television show to air later this year.

| Round 2: David Phelps (left) used his chess end game skills with his rook and knight vs rook ending against John Frearson. John played about 15 moves with just 1 second left on his clock. Thanks to the 5-second delay, the game continued forcing David to prove his mastery of the ending. The game was finished with a checkmate. A look at the chess clock showed that David had 7 seconds left and John had one second. |
